Club History

started in Sag Harbor, NY at the Sand Bar Tavern in the fall of 1971. The club met bimonthly and the first president was Bob Burner. The membership for the first year was around twenty-five dollars.
Our first weekend trip was to Big Vanilla in the Catskills. It was a carpool of approximately 15 people. Our second trip that year was to Scotch Valley.
The next year (1972-73) we rented a lodge in Weston, Vt. We shared the lodge with members of the Matterhorn Club. The next year and for over 25 years, the club rented the same lodge on their own.
Our activities didn’t end after the ski season was over. In 1980 we held a benefit cocktail party to raise money for the U.S. Olympic ski team.
We have held beach parties, including two pig roasts. We made several floats for the Southampton 4th of July parade. We held fashion shows and theme parties. We also held cheese and wine tasting parties.
Our first “out west” trip was to Utah in early 1976. We stayed in Salt Lake City and rented cars. We drove to the ski areas from there. Another time a few members went to Quebec. We also ran days trips to Hunter and Bellayre, and weekend trips to Loon and Stowe.
For two years in the early 80’s the club let the 8th grade students from Tuckahoe School stay in the lodge for free. The kids wanted to ski instead of going to Washington, DC for there class trip. Five chaperones and twenty students went and a wonderful time was had by all.
In recent years, the club has journeyed to many ski areas out West, and has been to Europe once. Check the Extended trips page for current offerings.
